Home charging: 3.3 kW, 7 kW or 11 kW?

How to pick a home charger that fits your daily driving and your electrical connection.

Start with your daily driving

Most drivers cover 30–60 km a day. At roughly 15–18 kWh per 100 km that is only 5–11 kWh per day — a 3.3 kW charger replaces that in about three hours overnight.

Single-phase or three-phase?

  • Single-phase homes can use chargers up to about 7 kW (needs a dedicated 32A circuit).
  • Three-phase connections allow 11 kW or 22 kW — but only if your car accepts that much AC power.

The car's onboard charger matters

Many EVs accept 7 kW or 11 kW on AC. Installing a 22 kW wallbox for a car that only accepts 7 kW brings no benefit.

Safety first

Always use a qualified electrician, a dedicated circuit with correct breaker and earthing, and avoid extension leads.
