Can solar power your EV?

A simple way to size a rooftop solar system for your daily EV driving.

How much energy does your EV need?

Daily kilometres × consumption (kWh/100 km) ÷ 100, plus about 10% charging losses. For 40 km/day at 16 kWh/100 km that is roughly 7 kWh per day.

How much solar is that?

In much of Pakistan, each installed kilowatt of panels produces around 4–5 kWh per day on average. So 7 kWh/day needs about 1.7–2 kW of panels dedicated to the car.

The catch: timing

Solar produces during the day. If your car is parked at home during the day, great. Otherwise you rely on net metering or batteries.

Try our solar calculator. Actual generation depends on your location, roof, shading, weather and installation quality.
